Live Interview

Understand users as they think out loud

Watch how people navigate, hear what they expect, and ask why in the moment. Because the real insight isn't what users do — it's what they're thinking.

You only understand a problem when you hear it

Data shows what people did. But it doesn't tell you what they were thinking. That moment when someone pauses and says “I wasn't sure what this meant” — that's where the real insight is.

Testing shows behavior

You see what users clicked, where they went, how long it took. But you don't know what they were trying to do.

Surveys give answers

People tell you what sounds right. But they can't always explain the moment something felt wrong.

Conversations reveal intent

You hear why something didn't work, what users expected to happen, and what they were actually trying to do.

Start a conversation, not a test

Invite participants, talk in real time, and capture everything automatically.

Capture everything

Record video, audio, and screen. Auto-transcribe and highlight key moments so nothing gets missed.

Hear what users don't show anywhere else

The things people say out loud are the things no dashboard can capture.

What they expected

Before they even interacted with your product — what did they think would happen? That gap is your biggest design opportunity.

Where they hesitate

Moments where something didn't feel clear. The pause before a click tells you more than the click itself.

What confused them

Even when users push through, they'll tell you what felt wrong. That's friction you can't see in analytics.

What they actually need

The gap between your product and their thinking. That's where the real improvements live.

Conversations that feel natural

No scripts to follow. No rigid steps. Just a real person using your product, thinking out loud while you listen and guide.

Turn conversations into clear direction

Every session generates transcripts, highlights, and patterns you can share with your team.

Patterns that stand out

What keeps coming up across different users — recurring themes you can act on with confidence.

The intent behind responses

What users really mean, not just what they say. Hear the reasoning behind every decision.

Where users get stuck

Moments where things stop making sense. See exactly where clarity breaks down.

What matters most to users

What they care about without being prompted — their priorities in their own words.

When you need real answers, not guesses

Live interviews work best when you need depth, not just data points.

Before building something new

You have an idea, but you're not sure if it makes sense to users. Talk to them before you invest time and effort.

When feedback feels unclear

Survey responses are vague or conflicting. Conversations help you go deeper and make sense of it.

When behavior is unexpected

People are clicking, but not the way you imagined. Understand what they were trying to do instead.

When you need real user language

Hear how users describe problems in their own words. Not product terms — their actual thinking.

Frequently Asked Questions About Live Interviews

What is a live interview in UX research?
A live interview is a moderated research session where you talk with a participant in real time as they use your product. You can ask follow-up questions, explore unexpected behaviors, and understand the reasoning behind every action — something no unmoderated test can capture.
How is this different from usability testing?
Usability testing focuses on whether users can complete tasks. Live interviews go deeper — they uncover why users think the way they do, what they expected, and what language they use to describe problems. You get intent, not just behavior.
Do I need to prepare a script?
Not necessarily. You can start with a loose guide or go fully unscripted. The platform supports both structured and open-ended conversations. Many researchers start with 3–5 key questions and follow the participant's natural flow from there.
How are sessions recorded?
Every session captures video, audio, and screen recordings. Transcription is generated automatically, and you can highlight key moments during or after the session to share with your team.
How many participants do I need?
For most qualitative research, 5–8 participants reveal the majority of usability issues and behavioral patterns. We can recruit matched participants and schedule sessions within days.
Can my team observe live?
Yes. Team members can join as silent observers, take notes in real time, and add highlights without disrupting the session. Everyone stays aligned without needing a separate debrief.
